Moorland Blooms is owned and operated by Katie - a freelance florist with 5+ years of industry experience. She has worked alongside some of the best florists in the business and gained experience of all aspects of floral design including retail, funeral work, large scale events and branding installations.
From her moorland cottage in the South Pennines, she provides alternative wedding flowers across the North West & Yorkshire. With a penchant for more alternative ceremonies & woodland settings, you can often find her rambling in the hills with her scruffy Chihuahua cross, Sooty, collecting natural curiosities or reading a Gothic Romance by the fire with her two Cornish Rex kittens.
My bespoke floral designs are often focused around the unique and unusual. I am often drawn to darker, ephemeral forms of natural beauty - think moody floral colour palettes, mixing fresh & dried elements, interesting textures and using unexpected sources of inspiration (medieval art & textiles, natural folktales & pagan themes, music & literature).
My floral designs are always foam-free and I minimise use of single-use plastics in my work. I always compost green waste, recycle cellophane sleeves, & work seasonally where possible, using a mix of British-grown and imported flowers alongside low-waste techniques to create designs that feel relaxed, natural and meaningful.
I am interested in incorporating more folklore elements into my practice by using traditional symbolism and stories around specific plants to inform designs.
